Sherwood Forest Bowmen will host the Hometown Hero Shoot on June 13 and 14 in Sussex -- a two-day outdoor 3D archery event open to the entire community, with all proceeds benefiting Bows for Battle, a nonprofit dedicated to helping veterans heal through the discipline and focus of archery.
No military or first responder affiliation is required to participate. The event welcomes archers of all ages and skill levels to navigate a 40-target outdoor course winding through the club's 28-acre wooded property. Food, beverages, and raffle prizes round out the weekend.
Bows for Battle uses the fundamentals of archery -- stance, breath, focus, and precision -- to help veterans quiet the noise of daily life, reconnect with fellow servicemembers, and find confidence after service. The organization provides veterans with archery equipment access, outdoor shooting events, and a brotherhood of mentorship and support.
The Hometown Hero Shoot is a rare opportunity to experience competitive 3D archery up close in a family-friendly outdoor setting -- while directly supporting a cause with real impact for Wisconsin veterans. Food, beverages, and raffle prizes will be available both days.
